A lovely day for reading and reflecting as I continue to do my homework for tonight’s class. I’m on my second reading of all the material we were asked to cover because I have a tendency to miss a lot the first time around.

There are two things that stand out for me at this point in my reading about spiritual direction:

  • That it is really a journey of learning and teaching discernment. I am reminded that in Unity parlance discernment is an aspect of the faculty of wisdom which we all have. The kind of discernment we are talking about here is in elevating this faculty to spiritual discernment (bringing our questions to Source and being patient) as we learn to love and live with the questions of life which is the second thing that is striking me at the moment.
  • The importance of living with our questions and letting ourselves grow into the answers so to speak. It brings me back to the wonder I wrote about the other day. Learning to live the questions is about truly living in wonder and curiosity and not settling for the easy, glib answers that are so readily available but do not move us to expand in consciousness.

There is, of course, so much more but for now I think I’ll hang out with these ideas for a while and see what they have to teach me.
