What a full and rich day! Started with a talk titled Rise and Re-Emerge at the Centre for Spiritual Living South where I shared some thoughts on all the Divine qualities that are inherent in all of us, we just have to tune in to them. But the fun thing that came up for me was about our inner guidance system. I’ve decided to call it our GCPS (God Centered Positioning System). Different from the Global Positioning System in that it is not about where we are in the world but where we are in Spirit. It’s about getting still and focussing on the Divine Wisdom at the core of our Essential Nature to get our bearings rather than on the things of the world. Very important distinction. (I will be posting a video of the service this week)
I later led a Rainbow Bridge Memorial Service at Westlawn Funeral Home which was open to anyone who has lost a precious pet and would like to remember them. (The picture is from the service) It was their first time, and it was a small group but it was really beautiful. I’ve done several Pet Memorial’s for Part of the Family Pet Memorial Centre in Sturgeon County over the past few years as well and I am always so honoured to be there to give people the opportunity to honour their relationship with their pets who made such a difference in their lives.
There are still a lot of people who really don’t understand the grief that arises from the loss of a pet, but for many, it is the most unconditionally loving relationship they have so the grief is very real and very deep, but they often don’t have anyone they can share it with who will understand.
If you’re wondering how you can be of more support to those who are grieving the loss of a pet, it’s really not that complicated. Acknowledge the relationship and the loss and make space for them to talk about what they’re feeling or to talk about their pet. It isn’t ‘just a pet’, it’s a precious relationship. We can all benefit from being more aware and accepting of people’s feelings even if we don’t understand them.
