Powerful reminder today about listening and asking open, honest questions instead of discounting and shutting out when something is said that I don’t agree with.

I know I have done this many times in my life and as I look at it from where I am now, I am saddened because I’ve missed out on some rich relationships and information along the way. I have opinions, beliefs and ideas, we all do, nothing wrong with that but where it goes off the rails is when I’m so deeply ensconced in my own point of view that I cannot even begin to let anything else in. It seems to be very much part of the human condition, but I believe (there’s that word again) that is a habit that I can dispense with.

As I become more aware through taking risks and stepping out of my comfort zone, I find myself more willing to see that there is great value in not always being around people who agree with me. I have not been the best at asking open, honest questions to find out more of what people mean when I am triggered, but there is always more than meets the eye to any story or opinion.

So, my commitment in honouring Soul is to be willing to hang in there and ask questions and stay open to those I do not agree with or understand. I may slip back into old habits, but everything starts with a choice and the commitment to keep choosing.
