First day of spring and as happens so often, we are having a major snowfall. Spring in Edmonton…

We tend to forget this kind of thing though and think of it as unusual or odd but when we look back over time, we realize it isn’t so odd, its life, we just choose to remember it in certain ways that aren’t always accurate (if ever).

That’s the thing with memories and why each person involved in the creation of a memory will have a different slant on it if not a totally different recollection. We don’t remember the event so much as our interpretation of the event.

In the same way, we are rarely just present for life as it is, we are thinking about it, giving it meaning, making assumptions, adding value, either positive or negative. Truth is that stuff happens, and we can just be present for it and receive it as is or we give it our particular spin. There’s nothing wrong with interpreting events, by the way, we are all doing it most of the time, but where we get into trouble is in thinking that our spin is the way it actually is. Wars are started over this kind of thing, personal and global, when we are so stuck on our personal perspective that we refuse to see another’s point of view. In truth, neither party is completely right or completely wrong most of the time and there’s always a third way if we are willing to work together to find it.
